Are you here by chance, or by choice? And if you are here by choice, who’s choice is it (or was it)?
Often, for many people, life seems to be so haphazard. A chance encounter here, and you end up married – for better or worse; a chance meeting there, and you end up in a job for the rest of your life – for better or worse; a day out that happened by chance, and disaster happens – an accident, or worse; a decision taken by chance, and you win the lottery – for better or worse!
Do you think you are where you are today by chance, or by choice?
There’s no such thing as chance … only a Creator of circumstances … and choice.
I used to believe in co-incidences – until one day, when I realised that they were “God-instances.” Just too many things seemed to be happening by chance! You know the type of thing: you are thinking about somebody, when the phone rings – and it’s them; you start saying something, and someone else starts saying the same thing at the same time; you decide to go for a coffee somewhere, seemingly by chance deciding to go somewhere you have never been before, and you meet someone who ends up changing your life forever.
These are seemingly irrelevant decisions, or things that happen, that lead to unexpected results – and lead you to where you are today.
You are where you are today – in all its aspects, good and bad – because of the circumstances of your past and the choices you made!
But, of course, there are other more relevant – and important – decisions that lead you to where you are today. You will all have heard a similar story about two brothers who grew up together, with parents who were dysfunctional and abusive – one ended up in prison, and the other a successful business man. Both shared the same circumstances, but both made very different choices along the way in their lives.
“See, I have set before you today life and good, death and evil …”
The Bible says that God gives us a choice – a choice between “life and good, death and evil.” It’s that simple – love God, walk in His ways, keep His commandments, and you choose life; choose differently, and “you shall surely perish!” You are where you are today, because of the choices you make!
God gives you a choice, but He also creates circumstances! He is:
“the God who holds your breath in His hand and owns all your ways …”
If you are going down the wrong path, or you have made the wrong choice, God will always bring you to a circumstance whereby you can make a different choice – which leads to a different outcome – in your life.
So, are you here by chance, or by choice?
