As we approach Christmas, we can’t help thinking of all those who are finding life hard. Some, who find it relatively easy all year through, find it hard at Christmas time. Memories of lost ones, financial struggles, loneliness, winter blues, the stress of trying to get everything done before the big day: everything seems to build – overwhelming us and, if we are not careful, overcoming us.
“difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it.”
Matthew 7:14 (NKJV)
Even as Christians we find that, sometimes, it’s a hard life!
Doesn’t it feel, sometimes, as though you are fighting an uphill battle; it seems as though those steps get steeper and steeper, and harder and harder? It doesn’t help that, as Christians, we feel as though we have to be full of joy at Christmas!
It’s a hard life, and some of us just want to shout and scream, or run away and hide, at Christmas. Some of us just want to go: “AAAAAAAARGH!” and RUN!
It’s a hard life, even when you know the Hope.
“And his name will be the hope of all the world.”
Matthew 12:21 (NLT)
So if that’s you, this Christmas; if you know the Hope, but you are finding that life is a struggle, and you want to scream and shout, or run and hide; may you live by faith. But if you are struggling, you might not even feel that you have enough faith, you might feel that you are “letting the side down” or less of a Christian by feeling the way you do – and at Christmas time, of all times. But:
“The faithful love of the Lord never ends!”
God has enough faith for you! His faithful love for you lasts forever. He knows how you feel, He knows everything about you – and He loves you.
And even if you don’t feel like you can walk in love today, or this Christmas, you can walk in the love of the Lord – which never ends!
It’s a hard life – “difficult is the way which leads to life” – but it does lead to life. That uphill battle, that road that seems to get harder and steeper, does lead to life. So however hard life is for you right now, however difficult is the way for you; we pray that you know the hope, you live by faith and you walk in love – that you know the faithful love of the Lord for you will never end.
