A big “Thank You!” to everyone who turned up on Tuesday, 18th November, for the Newcomer’s Evening at Sure Hope Church. It was a great evening – fantastic to see so many people who have joined us over the last few months and years.
It was the first of many, with a newcomer’s evening planned at least annually, if not more often, in the future. We are really blessed and encouraged to see so many people joining us on a regular basis on Sundays, and we really want to encourage you all and welcome you to the family.
You see, when you come to know Christ Jesus as your Lord and Saviour – when you know the Hope – you are adopted into God’s family.
“God decided in advance to adopt us into his own family by bringing us to himself through Jesus Christ. This is what he wanted to do, and it gave him great pleasure.”
We are delighted, therefore, to welcome you to the family at Sure Hope Church. We are not perfect; we don’t always get things right; but we do recognise that you are part of the family of God, and an important part at that. Together, “we are the church” – we are the family of God.
Being part of a family means that you have certain benefits: a sense of belonging, being loved and cared for, protected, supported; and you also have an inheritance:
“In fact, together with Christ we are heirs of God’s glory.”
But being part of a family also means that you have certain obligations: you are part of a team, a body, with responsibilities and with work to do! You learn to live by faith.
“Their responsibility is to equip God’s people to do his work and build up the church, the body of Christ.”
So, church, family, our responsibility is to equip each other to do God’s work, to build up the church – to build up each other, to support each other, to love for each other, and care for each other – to walk in love, because when one of us suffers, we all suffer:
“If one part suffers, all the parts suffer with it.”
1 Corinthians 12:26
I don’t know where you are right now, whether you are suffering or celebrating, but wherever you are and however things are for you – you are part of our family. You are adopted in! You are welcome – so we trust that you know the Hope, you will live by Faith, and you will walk in Love.
